For further information about Sheikh Abdelbasset Abdessamad, please note that ‘Abdul-Basit ‘Abdel-Samad (1927 – November 30, 1988) was a renowned Kurdish Egyptian Qari (reciter of the Quran). He won three world Qira'at competitions in the early 1970s and was one of the first huffaz to commercially record his recitations. He was also the first president of the Reciters' Union in Egypt.

In 1950, he relocated from Luxor to Cairo, where his mother was an Egyptian Arab and his father was of Kurdish descent.

Sheikh Abdulbasit Abdulsamad traveled extensively outside of Egypt. For example, he recited at the Badshahi Masjid in Lahore, Pakistan, as well as at one of the biggest Madrasas in Bangladesh, Al-Jamiatul Ahlia Darul Ulum Moinul Islam in Chittagong. He also visited Jakarta, Indonesia in 1964/1965 and recited the Quran in the country's largest mosque.

Contrary to some sources, Sheikh Abdulbasit Abdulsamad passed away due to an illness and not because of a car accident. Seven days before his death, he was admitted to one of the finest hospitals in London. He passed away on Wednesday, November 30, 1988. He is survived by his three sons: Yasir, Hisham, and Tariq. Following in his father's footsteps, Yasir also became a Qari.
